Free MCP server

Use Needle in ChatGPT, Claude & AI Assistants

Needle has a free Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Connect it to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any MCP-compatible assistant and it can look up the exact medication you need, check the FDA shortage list, answer questions from Needle's guides, and start a Needle search — where we phone pharmacies and tell you which ones say they have it in stock. No account or API key needed.

How to connect

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT settings, open Apps & Connectors (or Connectors), turn on Developer mode under Advanced, then create a connector named Needle with the server URL above and no authentication. Custom connectors depend on your ChatGPT plan, and menu names change from time to time.

Claude

In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it Needle and paste the server URL. Then enable it from the tools menu in a chat.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http needle https://www.findneedle.co/mcp

Things to ask

  • "Is generic Vyvanse still in shortage? What strengths does it come in?"
  • "My pharmacy is out of Adderall XR 20 mg. Can I transfer my prescription, and how?"
  • "Help me find Wegovy 1.7 mg near 84065 — start a Needle search."
  • "Write me a short script to call pharmacies and ask if they have Concerta 36 mg."

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT or Claude see which pharmacy has my medication in stock?

Not on their own. No public, real-time inventory feed exists for most US pharmacies. With Needle connected, the assistant can pin down the exact product, check the FDA shortage list, and hand you off to a Needle search — Needle then phones pharmacies and tells you which ones say they have it.

Does the Needle MCP server cost anything or need an account?

No. The MCP server is free and needs no account or API key. A Needle search, where we phone pharmacies for you, is paid per call or by plan — see pricing.

What does Needle keep from my AI conversations?

The assistant only sends Needle the tool inputs it chooses, such as a medication name or ZIP code. We log which tools are used and the medication searched, without your name or account, to improve the service. Don't share your name, date of birth, insurance or prescription numbers with any tool.

Which apps work with Needle?

Any app that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP, including ChatGPT (custom connectors / developer mode), Claude (custom connectors), Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code.
